How To Kill & Get Rid of Rats

The Roof Rats and their Folklore!

Lets take a look at what has made them so special. roof rats, roof rats, roof rats

Since the beginning of time, poets, artisans and children scribbling with chalk have expressed visions and reflections of humanity itself thru roof rats. Sadly, much of this colorful expression has dwelled on plague, disease and pestilence. (see below)

It's easy to forget the positive cultural  impact roof rats have had on us.

By way of simple example, our own Sir Paul has this story to share. As a young lad growing up, Sir Paul's Grandmother would often tuck him into bed while telling him bedtime stories like this. roof r

Once upon a time  ......  roof rats, roof rats, roof rats
there was a giant roof rat.  This rat had special powers, the power to know when girls and boys were being bad! The giant rat would steal into the bedrooms of bad girls and boys at night, after they went to sleep, sort of like Freddy Kruger.  As punishment for their sins, the giant rat would gnaw out the eyes of the misbehaving tots, so that they could only look inward and see the pain they had caused their parents and grandparents.  roof rats, roof rats, roof rats

As a bedtime story, this was not a favorite of Sir Paul's, but did help keep him in line during his formative years. Unfortunately, Sir Paul's relationship with his grandmother inexplicably suffered thereafter. roof rats, roof rats, roof rats roof rats, roof rats, roof rats

The history of Roof Rat Lore goes way back.....
Here is yet another roof rat fable from days of yore,
which goes something like this.  roof rats, roof rats, roof rats roof rats, roof rats, roof rats

Once upon a time  ......  roof rats, roof rats, roof rats
back in the Old Country, there was a festive tradition  called  "The Night of The Citrus Rat" or "Der Ratus um Citrón Nacht".  This long anticipated event culminated with a mythical roof rat who would bring gifts of oranges and lemons to boys and girls who pleased their parents.  However, children who did not please their parents got their eyes gnawed out instead! Yes, it was a gay time for almost everyone. r

If only we could revive these fine old traditions that added pleasure to many a family, as well as supplying employment for seeing eye dog trainers.

Who would not be willing to support the roof rats, given the rich benefits they provide society?  Below are modern heroes, honoring the humble roof rat, in any way they can. From physically holding up a needed roof for roof rats to scamper on, to manning a mobile Rat Support Unit, to assist roof rats displaced by flood, fire or pestilence.

Besides the obvious benefit of expanding our urban wildlife population, roof rats also provide a valuable service by carrying off citrus fruit that has dropped to the ground. All that citrus fruit rotting in your backyard just goes to waste anyway. Your unwanted fruit can feed many thousand roof rats. Besides, who wouldn't want a little bit of nature, right in your own backyard or attic?  roof rats, roof rats, roof rats roof rats, roof rats, roof rats

One can hardly sing the praises of our friend the roof rat enough. Yes, these furry little balls of fun are now with us, and it looks like they are here to stay. First, lets look at the wonderful qualities that roof rats possess, and what we might learn from them about getting along in this world.

Here are telltale smudge marks. This indicates  that you are blessed with roof rats in your attic.

Speaking of dinner, roof rats are good eats too! roof rats, roof rats, roof rats roof rats, roof rats, roof rats

Your children will shout with glee at the sound of little feet pitter pattering in your attic.  At Christmas time you can even tell the kids the sounds from the attic are really Santa's reindeer on your roof. The roots of roof rat heritage run deep and strong, creating a powerful force of diversity in our genetic pool.  Below is the "Family Tree" of Roof Rats. This chart shows the lineage of the first rats and how they have influenced modern society thru prolific production of offspring.

So, you see, roof rats really are a precious resource.  With a past history  that has consistently promoted population control (of humans that is) thru periodic plagues and the such.  And not to worry, roof rats are more afraid of you than you are of them. Since roof rats sleep during the day, and generally stay off the ground, we can often co-exist with them with relatively little disease and filth.

Rudy The Roof Rat Says

"Eat your citrus...

Yes, this mighty little rodent has much to teach us about good nutrition.

Sailors have often wondered why there are so many rats aboard ships, and why did they get so much better looking as the weeks dragged on?

The answer is obvious, roof rats are there to educate us on the importance of eating citrus! If you don't eat your citrus, Rudy and his friends will.

Picking and eating the citrus fruit from your own backyard can help prevent scurvy as well as roof rat infestations.

Why these little critters continue to cry out, like a lonely voice in the desert, "Eat your citrus", to anyone who will listen, may never be known.

Anita Bryant, one of Sir Paul's dead celebrity friends, promotes roof rat inspired citrus message to eager youngsters.
"A day without roof rats is like a day without moonshine"

Since roof rats eat such a healthy diet themselves, their meat contains a nutritious blend of vitamins and minerals, including the amino acid RATATONIN, which helps promote a good night's rest. If you can't eat your citrus, at least eat your roof rats.

Roof rats are also high in protein and low in carbohydrates, just perfect for the Atkins Diet.
